How to make an event more sustainable
The most important tips to keep in mind when organizing a sustainable event
Brands, as well as users, look for companies and suppliers that take into account their environmental footprint. This thinking and actions must be extrapolated to all the language and presence of the brand, where we also find the events.
Events are often associated with expense and negative branding in society. Today we have come to disprove this fact and to affirm that, if there is willingness, a sustainable event can be achieved.
Here are some tips to keep in mind to achieve a sustainable event:
1.printing
We agree that in all events it is necessary to use stationery for communications, signage, branding, accreditations…
One of the solutions is to take all the paperwork to digital formatThis option offers us many possibilities of design and form without any negative footprint and with a lower investment; but we must not forget how much we like experiential and physical things. We therefore encourage you to use recycled and/or organic paper. And one of our favorite options: plantable accreditations. What we like is a good storytelling and to take the events much further, that they do not remain in the specific day of the celebration. With this alternative, post-event moments and special Corporate Social Responsibility occasions can continue to be created. In this way you go further and, in addition to not leaving a negative footprint, you will create a positive impact.
2.means of transportation
Sometimes the means of transportation of an event (pre and post) are not taken into account because it is not considered as part of the event but we agree that depending on the number of attendees there can be a great impact.
Possible solutions to this variable could be to make it clear which public transports The attendees count on to get to the place of the event. It seems incredible that something as simple as a communication helps to achieve a sustainable event, and so it is; in this way the guests forget about parking problems. Another option is to put common carrier for guests in the form of a bus or a bus station. fleet of electric cars; both options will help to reduce emissions by a very large percentage. In addition, providing attendees with a fleet of cars is perfect for presentation and product testing.
3.localization
The location is the space where the entire flow of the event will take place, so it is essential to study the space and see what guidelines are followed to be more sustainable.
As for companies, there are official certificates to designate that the space performs or has the conditions to be a sustainable location; these certificates endorse both the sustainable space and its practices. Some of these variables that must be taken into account to work with a sustainable space are: the locationThe better the location, the better the ease of transportation for guests; the better the location, the easier it will be for guests to get to and from correct separation of waste and signage, both internally and for the public who are at the event to recycle correctly; the good use of supplies such as making the most of natural lighting, using energy-saving lights, using ventilation responsibly…
4.catering
Catering is another variable to take into account in your event and make it as sustainable as possible. One of the first things to look at is that the caterer uses all Km.0 food, this way we help local businesses and have minimal transportation emissions. The tableware used by the caterer is very important, both theirs for cooking and/or plating and the one they give to the guests to eat, the range of options we have is very varied, from wooden tableware, reusable, compostable… Obviously, single-use plastics are totally prohibited. The use of catering is a result of food surplus , it is unacceptable to throw away all the food, so, take it and we will assign it to an association of the sector that needs it and can make good use of it.
5.materials
– Contribution by Henriette Martínez –
As a design and construction company we create spaces from scratch and that implies a great deployment in assembly and furniture. When initiating projects, it is worthwhile to give it the attention it requires. More and more sustainable materials are being created to build eco-spaces. But before we start producing, let’s see what we can reuse, because we are in the era of giving life to what we use and leave behind the single-use ones. We will also find situations in which it will be unfeasible to reuse and the construction is very large. In such cases, we can look for associations and/or organizations with solidarity projects that can give a second life to the materials and we can contribute our grain of sand as a society.
In the end, a grain of sand does make a mountain. Small actions at your event will help you reach the goal of a sustainable event.
